I modeled this largely from the shops in Sachsentor in Hamburg, Germany. There were other sources of inspiration, but that pedestrian shopping street is so gorgeous. I wanted the piece to be more generalized for a variety of battlefields, but now I really want to visit Hamburg and see those shops in person.
I also want to design a few more of these so it gives the idea of more of a large town. I also like seeing games where there are tight areas to navigate. In order to keep it generalized I made sure the sign could be swapped out. The Polish shop name simply says grocery. I double checked with native speakers, so if it’s wrong – I did my best.
Researching Russian shop names has been mind blowing. I’m working on a large department store and was wondering what a shop name would be in Russia and as an American I’m thinking in terms of Macy’s, Target, anything along those lines. I kept looking for Russian department stores and kept just getting the word department store in Russian. I completely blanked on many things still being state controlled.
Anyway, so the Russian shop just says fish house.
